SIA NSW: Drugs and Alcohol in the Workplace

The SIA NSW Branch invites you to register for the below seminar which will be held on Thursday, 6 July 2017.

Overview

The seminar, run in partnership with law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth and the Alcohol and Drug Foundation, will address emerging issues with drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

An increased use of drugs and alcohol in the community is well recognised. There is a community cost but this increased use also has flow-on effects in the workplace, with the physical and mental health of workers potentially suffering.Mental health is not only a potential flow-on effect, but it of itself can lead a worker to drug and alcohol use and it is well known that mental health issues affect a number of Australian workplaces. The reach of drug and alcohol testing has also increased due to technological advancements which needs to be balanced against a worker’s privacy, including the possible extension into their private life.

The emerging issues are changing the way organisations need to manage drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

Attendees will be informed about the evolving legal justifications for drug and alcohol management and measures to assist in the provision of safe work environments.
